Publix Super Markets plans to open its newest store in Matthews on April 23, the Florida-based grocer's fifth store in the Charlotte region.
The Matthews store is at McKee Farms Shopping Center, in a former Super BI-LO location. The store will open at 7 a.m. for its first day of business.
The new Publix joins stores in Ballantyne, Rock Hill, Fort Mill and Indian Land. It's the company's second store in North Carolina.
Mecklenburg County building permits show Publix spent more than $2.4 million remodeling the building.

Let the record show that the local population is a bit ticked off that Publix closed our Bi-Lo and then took nearly a year to convert it and reopen it. The first reports we got from Publix was that it would reopen after just 2 months. Getting all these little flyers in the mail saying "opening soon" every couple of months was pretty annoying as well.
I hope this store will carry Anthony and Sons bread from NJ. Used to buy it at Lowes on Providence and now have to go all the way to the Harrisburg Lowes to get it. Publix is way better than HT, so maybe they will bring it in.
Jason, for the record, Publix announced their planned closing of the seven Bi-Lo stores on Oct 19, 2013. Their redevelopment plan stated a 6 month time line. There fore, they are right on track. Be sure to check out their antacid selection...
OMG, ALL the way to Harrisburg.
Typical Charlotte, I want what
I want when I want it. Get over
yourself, check out the news to
see those that would be happy to
have ANY bread.
Sad.....
Why would anyone complain about a Bi-Lo store closing?
