Another one of Charlotte's most highly-desired retailers is coming to the region: H&M plans to open a store in Pineville this fall, at Carolina Place mall.
The store will be the retailer's first in the Charlotte market. Fans of the fast-fashion apparel store have looked on with envy as the company opened Raleigh and Winston-Salem locations over the past few years.
The store at Carolina Place will be 17,000 square feet, located on the mall's upper level next to the Hollister store and near the food court.
From the store's announcement: "H&M at Carolina Place Mall will include collections for ladies, men, young ladies and young men, with separate “store within store” sections for lingerie and accessories. This location will also carry H&M’s fantastic children’s collection, which features quality clothing for kids ages newborn to eight."
Carolina Place is owned and operated by General Growth Properties. The 1.16-million square foot mall had a 97 percent lease rate in the first quarter, according to GGP's financial reports.
Carolina Place marketing director Scott Anderson said discussions with H&M have been going on for several years as the mall tried to sign the retailer.
"We’ve been working with them for a while trying to get that together," he said.
"It’s exciting," said Anderson. He said H&M was the most-requested store at the mall. "The last two years, you’re always getting questions - 'You guys need an H&M. When’s an H&M coming?"
Now that Charlotte has a Whole Foods, Ikea, and three Trader Joe's open, as well as an outlet mall and an H&M on the way, what stores do you want to see that the city still doesn't have?

Never heard of H&M.
ReplyDeleteIf you're over 20, probably no need to. It's all high-priced "the current rage" stuff made in foreign "sweat shops".
ReplyDeleteFry's Electronics
ReplyDeleteFirst of all - it is known for NOT being high-priced, rather affordable actually. Previous comment is misinformed. ZARA would be a great addition to Charlotte as well.
ReplyDeleteDitto on Fry's. Also, H&M isn't expensive. I was in one recently when I was out of town. Take 5 seconds and browse their website if you want to fact check me. The prices are in line with a store like Old Navy. As far as being foreign made that's pretty much all clothes. I'd rather pay $15 for a shirt made in Bangladesh than $95 for one from Belk's just because it has a brand logo (Ralph Lauren, etc.) stitched on it. That's just me though.
ReplyDeleteI'm 41 and love H&M...I have shopped at locations in Milan, Berlin, and Paris. It's very affordable and has something for all ages--even us old fogies over 20. It's been a long time coming!
ReplyDeleteIf H&M is considered expensive, then I'd hate to see what your definition of cheap is. This is a long time coming for Charlotte. Don't have to drive up to Winston or shop online for something at H&M now.
ReplyDeleteZara and Mango
ReplyDeleteWawa
ReplyDeletethis is awesome. I'm new to Charlotte and just emailed them yesterday about an H&M store here. I agree that Zara would also be a nice addition.
ReplyDeleteWhomever said H&M is expensive is just mouthing off without any brand knowledge whatsoever. Folks like that should at least know SOMETHING if they are going to comment.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of fashion clothing stores, I think one store that is in both Atlanta and Washington DC that should be in Charlotte is Bloomingdales. Probably won't come here anytime soon, but I can dream....
ReplyDeleteSheetz
ReplyDeleteYes.
Deletesecond Wawa
ReplyDeleteAgreed--Wawa please.
ReplyDeleteChristmas Tree Shops
ReplyDeleteGrom gelato
ReplyDeleteWawa would be awesome

ReplyDeleteWE need a COSTCO in HUNTERSVILLE!
ReplyDeletedoes that mean that A&F is leaving, cause the location you are talking would be where A&F was, but it's now closed up and the Monogram shop was moved. PLEASE,PLEASE, PLEASE tell me A&F is gone, I'd love to not have to avoid that side of the mall so I don't have to smell the stench coming out of it. Seriously, the business around it, I wouldn't shop at either, the smell was soooooo bad! The shopping GODS must be smiling down on us, if this is true.
ReplyDeleteWhat ever happened to the one that was going in at South Park? And Northlake? This blog reported about it last year:

Would be nice (and ethical) to see a correction. Or at least a "Oops, plans got changed" here.
A soul
ReplyDeleteWegmans! To dream the impossible dream
ReplyDeleteFinally!
ReplyDeleteAnyone that thinks that H&M is expensive must do all their shopping at a thrift store. Heck, H&M might beat those prices on some things. It is a very reasonably priced, even cheap, store.
Other stores I would like to see are a Tumi outlet (hopefully in the new Premium Outlets), Zara, Club Monaco, Thomas Pink, Fry's Electronics (will never happen, but I can hope), more Whole Foods locations, and...an H&M uptown.
We need Meijer. It would put wally world out of business in a year. Also Sheets and BevMo. And Damon's. And Cottage Inn Pizza.
ReplyDeleteSaks Fifth Avenue
ReplyDeleteWEGMANS,!!!
ReplyDeleteWegmans, Wawa, Sheetz, Bloomingdales, more Rita's Ice locations
ReplyDeleteSky City!
ReplyDeleteNeiman Marcus Last Call. I have shopped at the H & M in NYC and it is NOT expensive.
ReplyDeleteZara!
ReplyDeleteLove HM stores I just travelled to Winston-Salem this past sunday to shop at their store!! And one other store Charlotte needs is Christmas Tree Shop and Wegmans ;)
ReplyDeleteZara would be great addition. and anyone who hasnt heard of H&M is probably old, extremely unfashionable or a redneck because their stores are everywhere.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY!!! Now we need a ZARA store!
ReplyDeleteWhen your paying the cashier, (who might be making $9.00 hr), for those new designer H&M clothes, don't forget that someone in a depressed country somewhere in the world is working, most likely, in a hot and crowded warehouse for about $0.25 a day, for you to enjoy your new shirt, pants, etc.
