Florida-based supermarket company Publix plans to officially break ground on its first store in North Carolina next Thursday morning, at 10 a.m.
The company is the latest new entrant to Charlotte's grocery scene, following Whole Foods' debut in SouthPark last year. Publix plans to open numerous stores across North Carolina as the company expands north on the East Coast. The company opened its first two supermarkets in the Charlotte region last year, in South Carolina.
Matthews-based Harris Teeter announced earlier this year that it has hired bankers to explore a possible sale of the company. Analysts have speculated that Publix or another larger rival such as Kroger or Giant could be interested.

I work and shop at Publix. Publix is a great environment and benefits are phenomenal. Publix rocks!
Charlotte seems to be a proving ground for the best grocery store. Bi-Lo is based in SC, Food Lion in Belgium, Publix from Florida. We've already said goodbye to Hannaford's and Bloom's. Whole Foods caters to a certain demographic, of which I am not a part of.... Wow, what's left in Charlotte that I can always depend on, and support my local business? I guess that would be the good old HT, who even now is feeling the pressure. I've shopped at all of these stores, yes each one is different. What I need right now is a IGA.

Food Lion is based in Salisbury. The company that owns it is based in Belgium. However, Food Lion itself has their HQ in Salisbury.
By your logic: Its like saying Opel is based in USA because it is owned by GM. Which it isn't.
Harris Teeter has been in the NC area for many years. They provide excellent customer service and good savings if you use your VIC card. Why go somewhere like public which has no business coming in a building here. We have enough grocery stores. We don't need more land being taken for shopping centers. Food Lion just has nasty stores. .. I'll stick with HT.
HT Stores are nice and all, but without exaggerating, Grocery shopping for 2 people there used to cost me approx. $300 per week. Since switching to Super Wal-Mart around 8 months ago, the average bill has been between $200-$225 per week, including the miscellaneous items I inevitably buy while at Wal-Mart. Exact same brands too. Why anybody would shop at HT is beyond me.
Publix treats their subsidiary companies like garbage. Direct quote were "you can make a decision, but it has to be our decision" and "you're a flea on the elephant's ass", and "you don't deserve our benefits".
Shop elsewhere.
Maybe for you who must have a good store manager. There are many others who do not share your experience and sentiments.
