Two new options for Mexican food are planned for midtown Charlotte, according to RestaurantTraffic.
The site, run by local real estate professionals, is reporting that La Paz will reopen in August at the Metropolitan in Midtown. The 31-year-old restaurant closed in Southend several months ago after a dispute with their landlord.
Chipotle, which currently has three Charlotte locations, will build its fourth at the corner of Kings and Charlottetowne. The lot is across the street from the Metropolitan complex. The nearest Chipotle isn't that far, down South Boulevard, but a midtown location will definitely make it easier to pop over for lunch if you work uptown.
How can you call 10 blocks from the square, outside the I-277 loop, off King's Drive, "Midtown Charlotte"?
ReplyDeletebecause that has quietly bee what the are has been called for years. Prior to Metropolitan, Midtown Square sat on the plot. It was also the original home of Midtown Sundries.

Well at least we now have two decent restaurants coming to the Metropolitan, great alteratives to the bad food at Zoes. Now, if we could just fix the atrocious parking deck.

You can also tell that La Paz is coming to the Met b/c they've got a huge sign on the side of the building.

ReplyDeleteThe parking deck is fine. I always go straight to the 2nd or 3rd level and never have a problem. The Hickory Tavern will also be coming soon and will be another great spot for the Met.

ReplyDeleteYay! More chain restaurants. Something Charlotte surely dosent have enough of. And can someone please explain to me how that area can be called Midtown. A city that lays itself out in a circular configuration cannot have a midtown, its basic planning principles. Seems as if they just needed to give it some kind of trendy name.

ReplyDeleteAnon 7:21 AM - go up further in the comments; your question was already asked. That area has been called "Midtown" for decades. The first enclosed mall in the southeast, Charlottown Mall, was built there and later renamed Midtown Square. A new restaurant was built across the street called Midtown Sundries. It's just a neighborhood name, like Dilworth or Eastover or University City.
The parking deck is fine- there are more levels than 1. Yes, 1 is a cluster, but mainly due to the mix of people who need to speed, who walk cluelessly unaware and who sit and WAIT and WAIT for a parking space. Come in at Best Buy, and head straight up, park by the elevator. Easy Peasy.
