Frozen yogurt boom continues in Charlotte

Uptown denizens will soon have a frozen yogurt option in OverStreet Mall, with the opening of The Frozen Isle.

Adding to the ranks of stores such as Yoforia, Pinkberry and TCBY that have opened here in recent years, The Frozen Isle plans a soft opening (no pun intended) Saturday, Feb. 19 from 1 to 4 p.m. The weekend hours are a refreshing change for uptown residents accustomed to much of Overstreet Mall being shuttered outside of business hours.

The Frozen Isle will be located next to Chick-Fil-A in the Bank of America Plaza in OverStreet Mall. Final hours haven't been posted yet, but a grand opening event is also planned next Tuesday, Feb. 22. The store will feature a revolving selection of 12 flavors of frozen yogurt, along with fresh toppings, dry toppings and sauces.

Let's hope it continues the weekend hours and starts rubbing off on other businesses.

Like the hours, detest that it's in Overstreet Mall.

Charlotte used to have more TCBY stores. Most closed between 1990 and 2005.

Fantastic. Thumbs up for more somewhat healthy places downtown! Let's hope they have reasonable prices.

You missed the best one: Tasty-Yo. They have two stores, one in Noda and the other one at Robinson Farms near Stonecrest.

Their frozen yogurt is far better than what these other places offer but, more importantly, they are locally owned by two sisters, Mishie and Stephanie Goldstein. Keep an eye on them because they will make it far.

Doomed as doomed can be!

+1 above. Urban neighborhoods lose their charm when suburban supermarkets infiltrate.

Myers Park & Eastover are both suburbs

This Frozen Isle place is going to be the best thing that ever happened to Overstreet Mall! I'm so excited. Ever since I've been to other yogurt places like Tasty- yo and Pinkberry, I've never wanted to go back. They have horrible customer service which they should get on right away. Because I think this place is going to be the pioneer business that makes everyone jealous. Til then!
