An astute reader forwarded us the store's email blast. The 16,000-square-foot store is liquidating its inventory and will likely close in mid-March.
Books-A-Million is the third bookstore in the area to close in the last few years. Joseph Beth Booksellers closed in 2010, followed by Borders in 2011. The closure of Books-A-Million will leave Barnes & Noble as the last of the four chain bookstores in the area.

It's getting back-filled by World Market.
ReplyDeleteAre the other Books-a-Million stores in the area, such as in Concord, Gastonia and Rock Hill, closing as well?
ReplyDeleteWeak sale right now, with no rush to move inventory. As of this past weekend it was still just 20-30% off. Saw nothing that was 50%, that will come much later n the sale.
ReplyDeleteMagazines are actually included in the sale, which is the only plus I see, as their books are marked by cover price anyway, which you should under no circumstance pay.
Keep it up the good work.
