Taco Mac set to open in University City

Beer lovers in the University City area are about to get another 100-plus tap option, with a second Taco Mac location set to open with a VIP party on Monday.

The Georgia-based chain already has one location in town, in Piedmont Row near SouthPark. The second location is in the old Texas Land & Cattle Steakhouse at 517 University Center Boulevard, off West W.T. Harris Boulevard.

The owners say it will have more than 70 high-definition TVs and a patio with room for 80 customers. In addition to the 100 taps, the Taco Mac will also feature 200 bottled beers.

The new Taco Mac will be just over a mile from beer juggernaut The Flying Saucer, another chain that's made having a ridiculously big beer selection and a loyalty program (UFO Club at The Flying Saucer, Brewniversity at Taco Mac) a centerpiece of their business.

But with a large college nearby, the owners are probably betting there are enough beer enthusiasts to support both.

  3. "But with a large college nearby . . ."

Where? There is a university nearby, but I'm not aware of any colleges in the University City area.

  5. Hopefully their food and service is better than the one in Southpark. Both as just awful. If it wasn't for the beer selection, I'd never go there.

  6. People from Gastonia love beer and wings. TacoMac will be a success at UNCC for that very fact.

Well, it is perfect for University City and college students. Most "chains" target that demographic. If you want good, unique restaurants go to areas like NoDa, Plaza Midwood, Southpark, Dilworth, etc.

  8. UNCC students will not have the $$$ to eat at this place. Overpriced and bad service. Will not return to Southpark location.

  9. Agreed. Service was aweful. They really had a chnace to blow people out of the water and they couldnt execute. Wish there was not an out of town chain in that space near the mall. University will be a better fit for them anyways.

  13. Taco Mac in Southpark really sucks. There service is bad, It's like they went out of their way to hire the ugliest and most clueless wait staff they could find. The food is overpriced and not that good. I really don't drink much beer, so that doesn't really appeal to me.

I wish it was better, the location is awesome. I wished that something like Hickory Tavern would have gone into that space at Piedmont Row. 3 thumbs down for Taco Mac :(

  15. I wish they didnt hire every poor person from gastonia-way to work there. Its hard for people like that to hide where they are from

  16. I have been to the ones in Atlanta and the food is good. I'm glad one is coming to Uncc. Should be a better fit there with the beer selections and TV's than Texas Land and Cattle anyway.
