McDonald's headed to Quail Corners

A long-running spat over fast food at Quail Corners Shopping Center appears to be over, as the Charlotte Business Journal is reporting that McDonald's has signed on to put a location there.

The shopping center, at Sharon Road West and Park Road, is getting a multimillion dollar renovation. Neighbors had previously fended off attempts to put a drive-thru fast food restaurant there, and Crosland, the developer, had failed to win approval three times previously.

Here's an article from my colleague Steve Harrison about the zoning dispute, which stretches back to 1979, and the city's zoning decision last year to allow a drive-thru location there.

The Business Journal reports that the new McDonald's will be nearly 4,500 square feet. Salsarita's will be relocating to a 2,400-square-foot location close to Park Road.

How apropos that this McColumn has resorted to finding the next new McDonalds in its desperation to have something to fill space.

Just what Charlotte needs - more fast food! We can't let Louisiana and South Carolina be the fattest states in the country!

This makes total sense. There are only two McDonalds on Pineville-Matthews Rd within 2 miles of this location.

All that for another Mcdonalds! why not Hardees.

Don't put a McDonald's there. Rusty's is the real burger place.

Lucky!!!

As a resident that lives near the location, Andy Dulin, who promoted Crosland's interests over the homeowners in the region, better hope I never hear the drive thru volume at my residence or he will have hell to pay.
To Dulin's neighbors, expect lots of litter and a AM wakeup call for everytime I hear the speaker. Enjoy your peace whil you can, things are about to change for Mr Dulin's quiet neighborhood.

Such a disappointment; there are two other McDonalds within two miles of this location.

Rather have a Chic Fil A.

McDonald's? Seriously? If they were looking to go with class they could have at least considered Jack in the Box, or Taco Bell.

That McDonald's will do a booming business!

Well it will be an improvement so people can take their eyes off of the hole across the street.

But I'm sure the southpark crowd is all up in arms about this not being elite enough.

Any word on what's going to happen at "Dee Dee's hole" across the street?

Wouldn't you know they'd wait until I moved away before they put a Micky D there? I always thought that would have been a great place for one.

And those folks complaining loudly? You'll find them in a year or so in the drive through.

Is there room for another Wal-Mart across the street? ;)

But really? Yet another McDonalds? There's already 2 on Pineville-Matthews Rd in the 28226 area.

Any idea when the remodel is supposed to be done? It seems like Quail Corners has been under construction forever!

As a Seven Eagles resident all I can say is finally!! I know this will help my resale, because I knew I asked why we didn't have a McDonalds closer to us when I was looking to buy. I know when I'm buzzed of my cognac collection the first thing I long for is a McDonalds drive-thru. Well maybe next we can get a taco bell drive thru in Dee Dee's hole or church's chicken.

Perhaps section 8 housing could be proposed for dee Dee's hole?? Or a Burlington Coat Factory

Wow, guess we got the PGA tournament locked down for life now with this wonderful news!!

I was really hoping for a KOA campground!! Dang missed opportunity

I am shocked that McDees would come here considering the new one that is probably less than 2 miles down the road on Highway 51. Anything would have been better than that over-priced crap salsaritas! The entire area does need a makeover and a new McDees will make it look nicer. I would prefer a Chick-Fil-A as well, but the person that said Taco Bell and Jack n' Box is classier? LOL, thats a good one!

Another McDonalds, just what we need. -_-;

Hey, come on, Reggie Mantle - it's a McBlog, not a McColumn

I thought that this was determined about 6 months ago- I can't believe they did not have it built and open in time for the Wells Fargo/Quail Hollow/Bissell Wetlands/large hole golf tournament.

How have we gone from having a Saks Fifth Avenue and Ritz-Carlton at Seven Eagles ... to a McDonald's.

Anonymous said...

A Zaxby's or even a Subway probably would have done well at this location..there are too many McDonald's already!

All this biatching and moaning - as soon as it opens, it will be a non-issue and everyone against the development will be in the drive thru line......

Go to any Chick-fil-a (especially at Randolph or Woodlawn Road) at either 11:30-1 pm or 5-6:30 pm and see how traffic backs up into the thoroughfare from the drive through. The city knows that this backup will eventually cause a serious accident, but doesn't acknowledge it. After someone traveling on Woodlawn or Randolph crashes into a car stopped in the thoroughfare, they will say - with a straight face - that they had no idea this would happen. All the residents along Park Road will see the same thing happen at this location. At times, drive through traffic will spill over onto Park Road. And, eventually, you'll see the same sort of traffic problems. Hope no one gets seriously injured.

In other news, there will be 6 new traffic lights installed in Charlotte today.

Why are people freaking out? If cities were restaurants Charlotte would undoubtedly be MacDonalds. Boring, carbon copy, chain.

"but weer a reel citah" we got nashcar hawl uh fayme!

When will we learn? We're Mayberry with big banks, and a skyscraper.

A new McDonald's is sorely needed there, as are other fast food options, and the cheaper, the better. Lots of people don't want to drive all the way to Hwy 51 or S. Blvd for a Big Mac. And there are lots of people living in the area who are within walking distance of Quail Corners. The new McDonald's will increase shopping center customer numbers and will have a ripple effect on other businesses there. I can't wait.

I heard its going to be a classy, no Play Palace, two story McDonalds with all the upscale decor.

Anonymous said...

Hope this doesn't hurt Rusty's...that is a place to get a great burger!

Anonymous said...

Wow, cognac? Are you kidding me? I hope McD's open up then a Popeyes right beside it. Bunch of stuck up people around there. And yes, a walmart needs to be at dee dees hole..... let's see how bad we can anger the arrogants and south park douchies.......

Fix the hole in the ground across the street. PLEASE! Oh and Chic Fil A would be nice.
