Apple store headed to Northlake Mall?

A long-rumored second Apple store for Charlotte appears to be set for Northlake Mall, according to ifoApplestore.com, a fan site dedicated to tracking and predicting new Apple store locations.

Northlake Mall wouldn't confirm or deny the report, but referred all questions to Apple's corporate offices, which couldn't immediately be reached (A message was left with the press office though, and I'll tell you what they say).

But using building permits and job listings, Gary Allen, head of ifoApplestore, thinks he's got Northlake pinned down as the location: Storefront #280, on the mall's second floor. You can check out the information he's linked to yourself, but the permits he found list the project as "317221 Apple @ Northlake Mall - Renovation."

Says Allen on his website: "Tips are posted only when I can confirm the information, usually from multiple sources. I may post my own speculations, but I don’t post flimsy rumors."

The store, if it happens, will be Apple's second in Charlotte, complementing the current store at SouthPark Mall.

Why not count the one at UNC Charlotte too?

That's not in the "right" part of town, don't ya know?

Northlake Mall is a nice mall in a developing part of town. I think it's an awesome decision if it happens. The store at UNCC isn't officially an apple store though it comes very close.

Because the one at UNCC is not a real Apple store. They are an Apple reseller, just like Best Buy.

I work in the mall and the store is on the second level and almost complete.

Apple is currently interviewing for the roles to staff that store. This is a fact; not a rumor. Genius position interviews are underway.

Wow, talk about a "worst kept secret"?!?!?

I thought *EVERYONE* knew an Apple store was headed for Northlake! It's gonna be on the upper level, exactly in the same slot formerly occupied by the Eddie Bauer outdoor outfitter store.

I'm not even in retail but some old buds at Bauer told me about this a couple of weeks before they had their store-closing "fire-sale".

"Lost our lease. Besides Eddie Bauer wanting to cut back on retail spaces to concentrate more on outlet malls, Apple must have met Northlake's $$$$-per-square-foot rental rate."

When going to northlake mall remember to stop and pickup Charlottes best pretzel at Wetzels Pretzels.

I thought the world was full enough of iTools...

...guess I was wrong. There's enough Apple for all the wannabe's now-a-days.

Believe me, it's coming to Northlake mall. I work in the mall and have been watching it being built.

Good to hear. It's such a pain in the arse to drive to South Park to Genius Bar...

Yes, it's true....but you can't see any progress. They are building the new store behind a barricade.

Northlake Mall?? I think Carolina Place would probably do better, or one at Concord Mills. I am an Apple user myself, and hate the Southpark mall Apple store. Just too ritzy and everything there is so polished and fake. The store gets packed but it's got that fake Southpark area feel, where people just walk past you, don't look you in the eye, and give you the cold shoulder.

WHO FLIPPIN CARES--A STORE IS A STORE---GOT MY IPHONE AT THE PHONE COMPANY---IPAD AT SAMS CLUB--WE DONT NEED AN APPLE STORE

Northlake is a dump. Extra clientelle to be followed outside into the parking lot any of Northlake's upstanding loiterer's, and then ripped off in broad daylight.

when WILL the black thugs takeover SouthPark?

Anonymous said...

This is going to be an awesome addition to North Charlotte and Northlake Mall..

The SouthPark location needs an expansion regardless of a new store in town. It's too small to handle all the services that Apple provides.

the apple store in boston is maybe 6 times the size of the one at southpark and boston does way less business. a new store would be beneficial by easing the crowds at southpark which are terrible especially when a new product comes out or it is the holidays

I visited the Apple Store at South Park once when I had a problem with my IPhone. I didn't like much about it and am delighted I will not have to drive from home (Near Northlake Mall) to South Park again.

As for when will Black thugs take over at South Park, they have not been immune from crime at that mall.

As for loitering at Northlake, you must not have been to Concord Mills.

For the other people who never see anything good anywhere you need to visit the Mental Health Center on Billingsley Road, get some pills, and realize crime is everywhere, you will not like everything anywhere, so you might as well pretend you are happy like the rest of us and get on with changing things for the better without being so grumpy.

I'm black and I don't care for black thugs either.

They might as well go to Eastland...

Someone is very smart to tap that market. It's a great mall - HOPE it's (false) "reputation" keeps the folks away so there will continue to be a quieter, nicer place for me to enjoy shopping and a movie! Bring on the Apples! I will be there!!!!

Could it be possible that people don't like NK because it is actually a pretty nice mall. Anyone from Charlotte knows that the sun rises and sets on South Charlotte and when people there feel a little threatened they freak out. Charlotte isnt a small place anymore and theres nothing wrong with SouthPark sharing the limelight.

There's no more crime at Northlake than there is any other mall in Charlotte. Check your facts buddy!

It would be nice if there was an Apple store in Gastonia,NC

I have really crappy service at the Apple Store in NorthLake. I spoke to an Apple Representative about it but I would not go back to it.
