Harris Teeter offers flat-rate online shopping

Shopping online for groceries could get cheaper at Matthews-based Harris Teeter - if you do it often enough.

The grocer is rolling out a flat-rate option, in which customers can pay $16.95 a month to use Express Lane online shopping instead of $4.95 each time. The service lets shoppers order their groceries online and pick them up curbside at the designated store.

The $16.95 fee will cover unlimited online grocery shopping, and shoppers will have the option of renewing their flat fee every 30 days. You'd have to use Express Lane at least four times a month to save money with the service.

Express Lane is available at 68 of Harris Teeter's 200 stores - including most in the Charlotte area -  and the grocer plans to add it to 20 more within a year.

And there are no low-fat or low-salt options for any of the food. So you'll die much faster.

I enjoy shopping at Harris Teeter. It has a rich selection, is clean and the personnel have been well trained. Good corporate culture.

Bad Corporate Culture more like it.....Work for them and see how they treat their associates....

like the Aldi's comment--Fit and Active Brand there is low fat and tastes good==lot cheaper. As for HT...I shop there for convenience sometimes. Not sure the express thing is right for me--it usually doesn't take me long to get the 1 or 2 items. Definitely not willing to pay $4.95 a trip or $16 a month to save a few minutes...

I've always stood by the "Home Town Teet" in the 3 states that I've lived in...but I spend less at Whole Foods...and it's "REAL FOOD"!!!

I like Teeter well enough.

I shop their sales and I find I can save money on staples.

The macaroni salad in their deli, however, is the worst mayonnaise-drenched glop I've ever tasted. Ick.

I agree with the corporate culture not being on par for the employees. I worked there for 5 years at 4 stores. You'd have to hold a gun to me for me to step foot back inside.

Bloom all the way! Oh wait...

There are 168 hours in a week and some people can't devote 1 or 2 of those to go to the grocery store?

Agree with the Aldi comment--and you need to check your food labels if you think HT food is healthier. It's not. There are plenty of low fat/low salt options at Aldi. And it tastes great and saves you a bundle.

I think $4.95 is a reasonalble price for the convinence. Yes, there is 168 hours in the week, but why bother wasting another 1-2 hours at the grocery store, when there is life to be lived!

Excellent corporate culture. HT takes excellent care of its associates. Aldi is terrible not even in the same league.

Excellent company to work for!

I worked for HT for two years; and , while I've since moved on to another career, HT is an employer of choice.

They treat the associates very well; I only wish there were more openings in their corporate structure, I would have gladly stayed for the remainder of my career.

Another plug for the Hairy Peeter by the CO.

I'm not sure if I'd say it is available at "most" Charlotte stores. By my count, there are 8 out of at least 22 stores in the Charlotte city limits offering it according to their website.

Nice to see varied opinion of the people on the same issue.

I save more at HT then any other store. Last shopping trip, we purchased $196 worth of food for $39. Yeah that kicked the hell out of Trader Joe's owner, Aldi but It takes some work:

A spread sheets
strict shopping list
Organized coupon book.

The average investment of time is 4 hours a month to save on average $120/ grocery trip. The above example was from HT's super Double coupon.

Also several of the items purchased free. Example, cereal on sale 2/$4. two 1$ coupons doubled, equals 2 boxes of cereal free. or $1.50 coupon on soy milk, on sale for $2.99.

Great quality, better variety if you know how to shop. If not, Go to Aldi.
